Use Google reCAPTCHA, a powerful way to prevent spammers from affecting your site.
It is easy to use and tried and tested.
There are several Plug-ins available to integrate it with your WordPress website. For Example:

- Invisible reCaptcha for WordPress
- No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA
- Simple Google reCAPTCHA
- Contact Form 7 Captcha
- reCAPTCHA in WP comments form
All of these are good, however, currently, I’m using the Google Captcha (reCAPTCHA) by BestWebSoft.
This plug-in was last updated 4 weeks ago while I’m writing the blog. So I can consider it an up to date plug-in. So far it has almost 100000 active installations and 185 5 Star Ratings. As an extra feature plug-in, it is quite impressive.
